Creative Ways to Ask Your Friends To Be Your Bridesmaids

January 26, 2010 by admin

Choosing your bridesmaids can be a painless or a very painful task. It’s usually pretty painless if you have several sisters and some close friends you’ve had for a long time. It can be painful if you are part of your college’s sorority, or you are the type of person who enjoys being surrounded by many friends instead of just a few close ones. But, no matter how painless or painful choosing your bridesmaids may be, it should be painless and fun to ask them once you’ve made the decision. Here are some creative ideas to pop the question to your closest gal pals.

  1. A great way to ask is to purchase a bridesmaid handbook such as “The Bridesmaid’s Survival Guide” by Mary Kay McDermott or “101 Uses For A Bridesmaid Dress” by Cindy Walker. You can mail it or invite them all out for lunch and give it all to them as a gift along with a thoughtful note that explains to each one why you’ve chosen them to be one of your bridesmaids.
  2. Contact your local florist or a florist that lives in your prospective bridesmaid(s) town and have a miniature bouquet sent to each one. This is great because you can contact the florist over the phone or in person, regardless of where your bridesmaid(s) live. Have the florist attach a note that says something like, “Will you be my bridesmaid? Love, Amy”. Your friends will be so excited to get the flowers that there is no way they will turn you down.
  3. If the weather is nice, you can invite all your friends out for a picnic in the park. Before your friends get there you can come up with some sort of scavenger hunt and plant things all around the park that have to do with being a bridesmaid. Maybe you could hide things like a fake bouquet of flowers, a few ugly bridesmaid’s dress you found at a thrift store, and a couple of kiddie tiaras you can find in the toy section. After you enjoy your nice picnic lunch you can send them on the hunt! Once they find all the items you can end the scavenger hunt with them finding nice notes addressed to each one of them explaining that you want them to be your bridesmaids and why.
  4. Sending your bridesmaids a gift if they live far away is a great way to ask them. A great gift idea is to have t-shirts made that say “Bridesmaid” and “Maid of Honor” with the wedding date on them and mail them to your prospective bridesmaids, along with a nice letter or card. You can have personalized stationary made at several online websites that would coordinate with your wedding or bridal shower theme.

While these are all great ideas for asking your bridesmaids to share your special day with you, it’s up to you to decide if you want to ask them together or separate. Some brides prefer to ask their maid of honor first and then their other bridesmaids second. This gives your maid of honor the opportunity to decline your invitation and still give you time to come up with a replacement without making your other bridesmaids feel like second pick if you have to ask one of them to be your maid of honor. It may also be nice to have your maid of honor’s help when you are planning on how to ask your other bridesmaids. No matter how you decide to do it, it is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for you and your bridesmaids.

Affordable Wedding Gifts

Being invited to a wedding is an honor. It usually means that you’ve played a significant part in the bride, groom, or couple’s lives. But, just being invited to a wedding, doesn’t mean the wedding gift has to break your budget. Here are some great wedding gift ideas that are not only affordable, but will be appreciated by the couple.

  1. Hoover Handheld Wet/Dry Hand Vacuum. This handy little vacuum works great on wet and dry messes such as cat litter, crumbs, and spilled liquid. It is great for quick clean-ups, and not for deep cleaning, but may come in handy with your bride and groom especially if they have children or pets. This great product will cost you about $30.00 at a department or home goods store.
  2. Black & Decker 10 Cup Power Pro Wide-Mouth Food Processor. A food processor is not something most couples think about putting on their registry, especially if they’ve decided a blender would be better. But, if the truth be told, blenders cannot do everything, and if your new bride is looking forward to learning how to cook or if the couple is known for being health food fanatics, then a food processor is just gift for them. This food processor is $40.00 at Target.
  3. Rubbermaid 20 Piece Easy Find Lids Product Saver Set. Think to yourself, how often do I use my Tupperware? If you are like most people, you probably use it frequently and don’t know what you would do if you didn’t have Tupperware containers to store leftovers and make lunch packing easy and mess free. Well, then you should share this convenient secret with your lucky couple. This Rubbermaid Tupperware set is surprisingly affordable, since it only cost about $16.00.
  4. 3 Tier Metal and Wicker Shelf. This cute shelf is guaranteed to look great in any décor and would be a great addition to any bedroom, bathroom, or living room. Extra storage is always handy, no matter what your couple’s style may be. Surprisingly this cute shelf is only going to run you about $50.00 at Target and would maybe be the perfect gift to go in on with someone else.
  5. 3 Compartment Laundry Sorter. These 3-compartment laundry sorter go above and beyond the traditional laundry basket. They provide a convenient way for your couple to sort their laundry before its time to do it. These will run you anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00 at your department or home goods store depending on what brand and style you choose.

You should never disregard the couple’s registry when shopping for wedding gifts. Their registry usually includes the things they really need to start their new life together. Most registries contain a variety of gifts to choose from in several different prices ranges. Don’t be afraid to ask a friend or family member who is also attending the wedding to go in with you on a larger item, so that you can save some money and get the bride and groom something they will not only use, but appreciate.

Conversation With A Florist

January 25, 2010 by admin

We recently had the opportunity to ask a florist about her experiences in working with couples were getting married. Here’s a brief sample of our conversation.

Q.  What’s the biggest misperception you believe people have about florists and weddings?

A.  Many people think that they can come to a florist at the last minute and get anything that they want. That might be true in some off seasons, but generally the demand is so high that we really need to know at least a couple months in advance what someone would like to try to make sure that we have it for them. For things such as roses, when the demand is high we might have to go outside the area to get them, and if we don’t know well enough in advance we might not have them available when someone needs them.

Q.  Would you say roses are probably at the top of everyone’s list?

A.  Roses are the most requested flowers for bouquets, but carnations are right up there. As a matter of fact, there are more requests for carnations because carnations are cheaper than roses and people use them for decorations in the church and at receptions. Per sales, carnations would be at the top of the list.

Q.  Do you raise the price for flowers when it’s for a wedding?

A.  No, although we have heard that there are a lot of florists will raise the prices at peak times of the year because they know the demand is so high that they can get whatever price they want to offer. We like to keep our prices fairly consistent as much as possible, even during events such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Q.  What would you say makes up the perfect bouquet?

A.  It’s hard to say what would be perfect, does everybody has their favorite flowers. Most of the ladies who come in one only rose bouquets, which is fine. Personally, when I got married I mixed it up with roses, carnations, and baby’s breath. I also mixed up the colors and added a couple that aren’t standard for weddings. I added some orange, blue, and purple carnations just to spice things up, and I also dyed some of the baby’s breath a light green. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in having a lot of different colors in almost anything.

Offering Thanks and Support

When giving your speech, it can be easy to get lost in list of thanks.  By planning ahead, you can pepper in kind comments and special introductions to add interest to your speech.  Complimenting the ladies never fails, and is a great way to highlight the beautiful daughter-in-law that just joined your family.  By showing your gratitude for those who’ve made the celebration so wonderful and extending your ongoing support to your son and his new wife, the father of groom speech can be a fondly remembered and sentimental moment in a special day.

By planning ahead and taking a few minutes to gather your thoughts, it’s easy to create a loving and memorable speech to give at you son’s wedding.  As the father of the groom, you’ve seen your son grow into the man that’s now starting his own family.  Offering advice on building a wonderful family or a gem of marital wisdom in your father of groom speech is a nice touch that can be very emotionally charged.  The loving and supportive words you share will flow best if you have a clear outline in mind when you pick up the microphone.  Taking the time to find the right words to share the feelings in your heart on this very special day can allow you to convey the gratitude and joy of the moment.

The words are only part of the father of groom speech, it’s also about the love in the heart of a father for his son on a very special day.  Planning what you would like to say ahead of time will allow one to speak more clearly and confidently.  Thanks to the guests and those who’ve made this magical event possible are in order, particularly the bride’s parents.  Adding in a bit of humor or fatherly advice on the subject of marriage or family can be a great personal touch that adds your special flourish to the father of groom speech.

Tips for Hiring a Wedding Planner

January 25, 2010 by admin

There are several reasons why a couple will deliberate over hiring a marriage planner rather than doing all of the preparations themselves. The most blatant reason is the time factor. In days gone by it was common for the whole family to become involved and to help with all the arrangements, but with the pace of present-day life this isn’t possible anymore. The majority are too tied up working and having to order the caterers, floral arrangements, wedding videographers, not to mention having to cope with the dress fittings and honeymoon agreements can be highly chaotic.

Although the general understanding is that hiring a marriage planner works out more pricey, hiring a pro planner can really scale back your costs when it comes to planning and organizing your wedding. Aside from the time issue there are one or two other reasons that it’s a brilliant idea to hire a marriage planner to do the majority of the organizing and arrangements for your marriage.

Firstly you want to find a marriage planner and though the yellow pages and Internet is one option, the best way to discover a reputable marriage planner is through recommendation by friends, either thru buddies and relatives or the bridal shop where you are buying your wedding outfits from. When you have a little list of wedding planners you can begin to narrow down your choice.

Make sure that you interview each wedding planner personally and find out how many weddings they’ve been involved in organizing and get as many video testimonials as possible . Remember that you’re going to be spending a lot of time with your chosen planner so you need to feel comfy with them. Even a basic wedding package can be an expensive affair, so take care that you check out as many of the references that you have got. Skimping on time when attempting to pick the perfect marriage planner for you at the initial stages could finish up costing you, not only in terms of money but also in terms of unnecessary stress and frustration.

Budget is always an element in deciding what caterer, videographer, wedding outfit and the rest you need for a wedding, but hiring a longtime, credible marriage planner will help you stretch the budget. Most planners, who have got a good reputation, also have many years of expertise. With this experience they’ll have built up a good list of contacts and should be able to get you the best price for all your wedding needs .

The bulk of people only have one wedding in a lifetime, but a wedding planner has been involved in hundreds or perhaps thousands and will have a firm schedule that they keep to to ensure that everything is ready for the big day. Deciding to go it alone and organize everything yourself means that you will have to do so much research to find precisely what you want and without any experience in dealing with wedding caters or florists you might end with a wedding and no catering or flowers.

Even if you finish up having to stretch the budget to pay for a marriage planner, being able to relax in the weeks or months leading up to the day is well worth the additional cost. Leaving everything to the professionals will give you more time to spend with your family and worry about more critical stuff like, which tropical island you are going to spend your honeymoon on.

If you are looking for a wedding video Sydney based professional to take care of your wedding video needs, it is important to book way in advance. The most professional wedding video videographer companies are always difficult to find on short notice and sometimes you end up using an amateur that doesn’t really produce what you need. Newly Engaged after the Holidays: Start Planning Your Wedding Now!

January 24, 2010 by admin

Congratulations on your recent engagement! With the holidays over, you can now focus exclusively on planning your wedding day. You have a long road ahead of you, and a lot of decisions waiting in the ‘nuptial pipeline.’ Don’t let that stress get the best of you though – use these tips specifically geared to newly engaged couples!

Five Simple Steps for Newly Engaged Couples!

Step #1 – The Engagement Party: First off, you should celebrate the fact that you’re newly engaged — enlist the help of some friends to throw an engagement party with your loved ones to announce the good news. This fete doesn’t have to be extravagant and expensive. A small house party can create the same intimate scene. You’ll also receive the good wishes of your loved ones, and perhaps acquire a few willing volunteers to help you through the challenges of planning a wedding.

Step #2 – Setting a Date for the Wedding Day: Next on your agenda should be setting a date for the wedding. Here we are, a brand new year ahead of us. Depending on how elaborate you want the wedding to be determines which date you select. Of course, there are highlights of each season. A spring wedding, though lovely, would likely have to occur the following year if chosen. The downside is that both spring and summer weddings are more expensive than those that occur in the autumn or winter. Weddings that fall on holidays are a good option as well since much of the church or venue you settle on will already be decorated for said holiday. Many couples send out a Save the Date card to inform loved ones of their newly engaged status and remind their friends and family of the impending wedding day. Many online companies now offer easy-to-customize templates that can be printed and shipped to you in just a few days time. You can even make your own Save the Date cards with a little ingenuity and basic computer skills.

Step #3 – The Details: Your next perhaps most important action when newly engaged should be a frank chat with your intended about planning the wedding. Lay out what each person wants in the day, either verbally or on paper. Discuss themes, colors, foods, venues, music, and all the various details that make up a wedding and ceremony. You’ll also need to set a realistic budget if you are paying for part or all of it. Today’s weddings are incredibly expensive if all the bells and whistles are pulled out, so you’ll want to identify well in advance what can realistically be afforded.

Step #4 – Research: Being newly engaged, you may want to do some research of your own. Make a point to attend bridal shows in your area to get an idea of possible vendors while planning your wedding. Oftentimes, the vendors are present to hand out vouchers or special deals for attendants. Just make sure to register ahead of time as bridal events usually fill up quickly. You’ll also want to start choosing your bridesmaids and maid or matron of honor to help alleviate the stress of planning your own wedding. The last thing you want to deal with is flaky bridesmaids, so choose wisely.

Step #5 – The Location and Vendors: Wedding venues — for both the ceremony and reception — get booked fast, so you’ll need to fly into action. If you attended a bridal show, you may have learned about venues in your area, or you’ve done a little research about planning a wedding on your own. Bring along your fiancé to look at each of your favorite venues in person, making sure to ask questions such as:

(1) How many people can the venue accommodate?
(2) Is there a catering service on site?
(3) Are there enough restrooms for all of your guests?
(4) What is the payment schedule and, subsequently, the cancellation policy?
(5) Are the facilities wheelchair accessible?
(6) What is the policy on alcohol?
(7) Is there enough parking for X amount of guests?
(8) Are there any limitations on decorations?

Take a tour with the wedding’s coordinator and think it over. Look at all your options before selecting the right one. You’ll also need to consider other vendors when planning a wedding. Do you want a DJ or a live band? If so, you’ll want to book as soon as possible. Caterers get slammed during the high season (spring and summer months) as well, so make contacting them high on your to-do list.

Planning a Wedding While Savoring the Simple Moments

Just remember, planning your wedding day is what you make of it! Getting everything in order can be stressful, but don’t lose your head. Rely on your bridesmaids, mother, friends, and loved ones to help you tackle one thing at a time. If things do begin to be too much, consider what a professional wedding planner can do for you. Oftentimes, they can negotiate better rates since they know reliable vendors around town.

Above all, have fun being newly engaged, planning your wedding, and getting closer to your special loved one!

A Maid Of Honor Speech: What Makes One?

A marriage ceremony should be one of great festivity and high flying moods; everything should be cheerful, jolly and jovial if you’re going to have a memorable day. So all the way from the church to the celebration hall the mood is ecstatic and vibrant; it’s important for it to stay this way and your maid of honor speech contributes to the maintenance of this mood. There’s nothing really complicated about a maid of honor speech, it’s mostly about being good natured and positive.

Introduce yourself by name and let the gathering know who you are, where you came from and how well you know the bride and bridegroom. Be short and to the point if you want to attract the focus of those gathered. If you do not do this people will just remember you as that girl.

Be grateful by expressing your thanks for being selected to be a maid of honor. Once this is done you can get into further details about the marriage taking place. This is where you have to be impersonal and focus on a universal delivery.

As you may have noticed most, if not all, of the speeches that are delivered at wedding celebrations are distinctly positive. This characteristic means that your maid of honor speech has to be one of reflecting on good moments in your lives together. Doing this does not require much, a day before the celebration just take a paper and pen and list the major highlights of your friendship with the bride. Once you begin to reflect be sure to draw a connection between the memories and the marriage. In a lot of instances this has the effect of telling the bride that her life was well lived, thus allowing her to slip into marriage without any thoughts of having unfinished business.

Humor is always a good ingredient to any situation. It lights up the dying spirits of those who are bored to death and it makes everyone feel good about what their doing, especially for the couple. The jokes you swing need to have a place in the wedding environment and should not be out of place. What works particularly well is making fun of the bride with content you know she is okay with. It is important to be careful not to get carried away. If your tongue slips the wrong way you might end up provoking the couple and ruining their day. Stay away from the ultra-sensitive.

With marriage being an event with implications for the future it would be good to predict a future of hope; prosperity and fertility. Nothing beats optimism in a world of negativity.

Be broad minded enough to reflect on the future. Assert positive images of the future being filled with fertility; prosperity and love. This undoubtedly makes the bride want to be in the marriage more than before, if she was harboring thoughts of abandoning the union then this will hold her back.

But remember this: you must wish the couple well for their marriage. A few words of hope for a good marriage are uplifting and they make the couple certain that things will work out. Another way to achieve a good ending is by narrating a poem that you wrote. The intimacy of poems adds a romantic and positive feel that beats any stage performance. Getting quotes on marriage and commitment is a sure-fire way of sealing a good speech.

Now you have an idea of maid of honor speech, next you may want to look into unique wedding favors for the bride. Do you know Favors-n-Gifts.com offers huge selection of cheap wedding favors? They are all priced less than $1 each. Take a look now!
